Hotel Sercotel Coliseo Bilbao ****

Official hotel of the Fun & Serious Game Festival, the Sercotel Coliseo Bilbao first opened in 1916. Recently renovated, it houses a prestigious restaurant, Ibaigane, whose chef is Fernando Marina. The new restaurant, on the first floor, will hold 400 guests. The hotel’s multi-purpose rooms can be divided or connected to hold all kinds of events in them.
The Sercotel Coliseo is a four-star hotel in Bilbao’s main financial and shopping district, next to the Campos Elíseos Theatre and internationally renowned shops and departments stores. Moreover, it is just a 5’ walk from the Historic District and 10’ from the Guggenheim Museum, the Euskalduna Convention Centre and Concert Hall, and the Museum of Fine Arts.
The Sercotel Coliseo is housed in the Coliseo Albia building, which it shares with Gran Casino Bilbao. As Bilbao’s former opera house, the building was a witness to the presence of Maria Callas, Alfredo Kraus, Plácido Domingo, Luciano Pavarotti, and many other renowned singers and musicians. Fully rehabilitated in 2011, it is part of Bilbao’s historical heritage. Its original 1916 façades stand in sharp contrast to the avant-garde yet cosy 97 rooms.
